Mango

Mango was founded in 1984 in Barcelona by Isak Andic, a Turkish-born entrepreneur who had moved to Spain as a teenager. The first store opened on Passeig de Gràcia, the city's main commercial boulevard. From the beginning the brand positioned itself around Mediterranean women's fashion — a particular sensibility: tailored but relaxed, polished without formality. By the 1990s Mango was one of the first Spanish fashion brands to pursue rapid international expansion, opening stores across Europe before most of its competitors had left the Iberian peninsula.

Mango's strength is its women's ready-to-wear: linen blazers and wide-leg trousers that carry weight in the fabric without weight in the formality, leather and faux-leather bags with enough structure to carry into a meeting and enough restraint not to announce themselves on entry, and seasonal knitwear that uses cotton and viscose blends to achieve the drape that pure synthetics can't. The brand produces a premium line, Mango Premium, where material quality steps up noticeably — these pieces are what customers typically seek by name.
